McDonalds is ditching ‘The Clown’

And the reason is extremely creepy.


McDonald’s in the US have confirmed they will be retiring the legendary Ronald McDonald clown mascot effective immediately. The strange influx of clown costumed crimes sweeping the US at the moment is behind the change, which will see Ronald retired for the first time since his introduction in the 1950s.

It’s totally understandable that McDonald’s aren’t super keen on using a clown to promote their brand right now. McDonald’s spokesman Terri Hickey said: “McDonald’s and franchisees in the local markets are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and as such are being thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being.”.

Clown-themed pranks and crimes have been reported everywhere from North Carolina to Hawaii, and while several arrests have been made, no injuries have been reported.
