Fifth Harmony perfects debut as quartet

Fifth Harmony after 2017 People’s Choice Awards performance.

The world had been greatly anticipating Fifth Harmony’s debut as a quartet for what felt like 1 extremely LONG month. Many fans had no idea what to expect from their debut performance on The People’s Choice Awards, which aired last night (1/18/2017). Some thought they would perform a new song, while others prayed for a mashup of all of their major hits. To many peoples surprise, the group did neither of these. Instead they hit the stage performing their smash hit and multi-platinum single, Work from Home.

I’ll admit it, when DJ Khalid first announced that they were performing this song I got a little worried, after all performing a hit single that literally EVERYONE (unless you’ve been living under a rock) knows could be a little tough especially shortly after losing a band member whose vocals are very predominant on the track. If they didn’t hit this one out of the park they could have had to deal with some very heavy criticism. BUT FEAR NOT! The remaining 4 girls absolutely killed the performance.

They opened the song by harmonizing “We are worried about nothing, we are worried about nada” and let me tell you, I too was no longer worried about anything, especially not the fate of Fifth Harmony (keep in mind we are only like 5 seconds into the performance lol).

The song and performance definitely had a new vibe, but it was absolutely iconic. All of the girls started out in 4 separate boxes which lit up while they sang, and above them their names were displayed in huge letters. They stayed in these boxes for the start of the performance and eventually all joined one another at the front and center of the stage. Everything from the choreography, outfits, makeup, hair, and vocals were all on point. It was clear they put in work to make sure this performance was something the public would be talking about for weeks. Unless of course you’re like me, then you’ll be talking about it for years.

Following their performance, they accepted the award for “Favorite Group” where they thanked the many harmonizers across the globe, their families, and team (like 3 times lol, so I guess the speculation of their team treating them poorly isn’t true). All of them smiling ear to ear Lauren informed the audience that there’s “So much to come. So stay tuned!” *Cue my inner fangirl screaming*

Despite all the wonderful things that occurred last night, I think the most important thing that we should take away from the night is truly how happy Ally, Dinah, Normani, and Lauren looked. They proved to us that literally nothing can stop them, and they will continue to rise to the top and reach all the success that they deserve. I’m warning you all now, 2017 is going to be Fifth Harmony’s year, so you guys better be prepared because it’s going to be INCREDIBLE. I can’t wait for what’s to come!
